Such a bright angel she will be

I just read on Novel's blog that Madeleine L'Engle has died. Her books have meant so much to me. She has meant so much to me. She will be greatly missed.

A great painting, or symphony, or play, doesn't diminish us, but enlarges us, and we, too, want to make our own cry of affirmation to the power of creation behind the universe. This surge of creativity has nothing to do with competition, or degree of talent…This response on the part of any artist is the need to make incarnate the new awareness we have been granted through the genius of someone else.

~Madeleine L'Engle, A Circle of Quiet

  1. I know, I cried a little bit when I read about it on boingboing. A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books, ever.

  3. My oldest daughter, now 25, called to tell me she heard about Madeleine L’Engle’s death, and wanted to talk about how much she remembered me reading A Wrinkle in Time to her at bedtime for many nights. It was sheer poetry reading her words out loud.

  5. A bright angel, indeed. Circle of Quiet is my favorite. A Wrinkle In Time is my kids’ fave. Amazing woman and writing, touching many generations to be…

  9. I didn’t post anything on my blog about it. I just wasn’t able to. Madeleine L’Engle was one of my favorite writers. She even took the time to answer both letters I wrote to her: one when I was about 13, the other when I was 25.
We’ve lost a special person. But you are right. A bright angel she will be.

  11. I couldn’t believe when I read this today (I’m a bit behind on your posts). About 1 month ago, I was poking around the library and saw “A Wrinkle in Time” on the shelf. I remembered liking it as a kid so I picked it up to read again. I enjoyed it so much, I ordered all the books by Madeleine L’Engle that the library had. I’ve read about 20 of them, most I hadn’t read before. And then I read your post; I hadn’t heard about her death. I feel kind of lost.
